Sen isn't sure at what point so much of her strength left her, but even something as simple as protesting or clinging even tighter to Kaoru to keep him from putting her down feels like an impossible task, and she finds that it's actually rather terrifying to feel so utterly helpless. It isn't a feeling she likes at all.
The man, on the other hand, doesn't have a single problem with this arrangement. He is confident in his plan and confident in his belief that Kaoru will go along with it and won't find back - and so, when he reaches for Kaoru's arm, he's caught by surprise when he grabs for the bow more quickly than he can react to and snaps the string. There is an instant where he stares at it dumbly, but then in the next instant he's readjusting his hold on the arrow and thrusting it downards -
